DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
DOMESTIC VIOLENCE - घरेलूह िंसा
Domestic violence a very common word that can be heard in everyday life but the most difficult
thing to face. It is the harm caused to safety, life, health and well-being of a person in its domestic
environment. According to government reports 30.9% of women in India face domestic violence.
According to me the main reason behind is "patriarchy". It is the system of society where men are
dominating and women as mere an object
In 2005, a special law named "Domestic Violence Act came into existence
and its objective was to protect women from physical violence, emotional
harassment, demand for dowry and sexual violence.
During lockdown, in march, cases of domestic violence increased. And
the major reason behind is disconnection from social system because
there were fewer options left to them to find safety and help. Women had
to put their self-respect, their wellbeing at stake and had to stay with the
accused during the lockdown. In India, every 1 out of 3rd women from
the age group 15-49 face domestic violence.
What to do now?
Go and file a complaint in nearby police station. It must
be very difficult to complaint especially in the case of
marital rape because still this word is not known to most
of the people. They think that it is the right of the
husband like he has purchased his wife. He can do
whatever he wants to, he can slap her, kick her, beat her
with belts, insult her and many more.
Stand for yourself.
Leave the place where you are facing domestic violence.
Shout out in public, no need to hide it because by hiding
you are giving next chance to the person to do it again
with you more aggressively.
If possible, then record the incident in camera or else do the audio recording.
