Steps Towards Better Implementation of Women Protection Laws
Steps Towards Better Implementation of Women Protection Laws

In our country, we have various Statutory Acts, Dowry Prohibition Act, Sexual Harassment of
women at workplace Prohibition Act, etc. and various others with the purpose of tackling and
reducing the crimes against women. However, despite such a large and diverse number of laws,
the crime rates re seen to be increasing. This clearly means that there is a problem in the
implementation of these laws. The procedures laid down are not as effective in practice as they
are deemed to be on paper. Even though some changes are being made by the legislature for
e.g. in the form of the Criminal Law Amendment Ordinance 2018, but the problem with this is
that these legislations often come after some barbaric incidents which draw the whole nation’s
attention to the issue. The government should be more receptive and attentive of making such
changes in the existing laws and passing new legislations and should not wait for any such
heinous crime to happen. It needs to act more towards prevention of these crimes and ensuring
better implementation of the existing laws. As a society, however suggesting or making any
changes is even more difficult because a major part of the society still has the age-old
patriarchal mindset and is still ignorant of such crimes against women. The society in so many
cases voluntarily close their eyes from seeing the crimes happening or preventing it. This needs
to be changed. People need to realize that it is their moral responsibility to stand up and against
these crimes, and do their part in making sure justice is served. For this purpose, more,
awareness should be created among the masses to make them see their responsibility in this
and making them understand why it is so important to make the society better and safer for
everyone.
